Sivali is a deciple of the Buddha. Lord Buddha himself admired Sivali as the luckiest monk with respect to good fortune and prosperity. He is considered to be a monk possessing the greatest fortune.

The monks shortly discovered something astonishing when they were with Sivali: he never, by any means, lacked abundant food, among others like robes, accommodation, and medicine. The monks with him were privileged to share in this abundance. Wherever Sivali traveled, there were others who eagerly waited to donate or cook for him so that he may be cared for.

Buddhist legend tells of a withdrawal led by the Lord Buddha and his 3,000 disciples to a remote jungle for meditation. As there was no one to offer them food, the thick jungle was no easy trip. Anondha, the most beloved disciple of the Lord, feared that they had no supplies with them. But the Buddha reassured him by telling him that Sivali, also a member of the group, would use his magical powers to provide all of them. True to his word, all the gods and jungle spirits convened to honor Sivali, each with offerings of food for all.
